The MSE curriculum integrates engineering and business courses with options for more specific research interests or specialization in engineering management. The program can be completed in two years of full-time enrollment, and its flexible structure allows students to design a study plan around their personal and career goals.
Most MSE students follow the 30-credit program. It combines core MSE subjects with a high degree of flexibility for individual specialization and offers the option of an industry thesis. In addition, the flexible MSE approach also offers a 24-credit thesis program for students interested in pursuing research and possibly obtaining a Ph.D. degree. For students interesting in a larger focus on management, the program offers a 30-credit Engineering Management Specialization. Below is a listing of the requirements for all three options. |

12 credits12 credits from the three MSE core areas.
The MSE program is framed by three core areas. They provide the solid foundation for the study of manufacturing systems engineering. At least three credits must be taken in each of the following areas:
15 credits15 credits of free electives. In addition, students complete 15 credits of free electives – courses drawn from disciplines of engineering, business, computer science and statistics. The course listings in these categories cover a broad range of manufacturing issues while reinforcing the systems approach of the program. The variety of subjects allows students to tailor their studies to individual goals and interests.
03 creditsCapstone Course. Students are required to take the Capstone Course – Design and Analysis of Manufacturing Systems.
Optional
Industry thesis. MSE students may substitute one elective course (three credits) with an industry thesis. This industry thesis option allows students to apply the acquired skills to a real life situation in a company setting. For a list of previous project partner companies, check here. |
